You've Found the Place Where
Serenity and Mindfulness Connect.

Who Knew?

Who Knew?

If they’d-a told me two decades ago I would fall in love with living a spiritual life, I’d-a thought that was about as bloody likely as me getting hooked on the drugs and alcohol I was partying around with.

Wait. Both things happened, and not necessarily in that order.

My deep dive into spirituality had less to do with getting older, wiser, and more mature. It had everything to do with getting sober.  Ultimately I got it that sobriety and spirituality are intertwined.

Making Contact

Making Contact

When I first began showing up at a Center for Spiritual Living, clueless that my drinking had morphed into a problem (but super aware of other peoples’ alcoholism), I would only meditate and pray (aka spiritual mind treatment) when queued to do it. My Higher Power connection was alive but dormant, only actively engaged when someone said “It’s that time again.”

Religion and Spirituality

Religion and Spirituality

The issue of religion arises at least once a month at any 12-step meeting that includes newcomers. It’s amazing how it causes confusion. Some folks claim that you have to believe in God, while others say all you have to do is admit you aren’t Him.  Others, myself among them, maintain that the spirituality aspect of the program has nothing to do with God unless we choose to make it so.  Only one thing’s for sure: put two addicts in the same room and it will soon be overflowing with opinions.
