Living Proof in Black and White
Do you ever ask the universe to show you a sign if you’re on the right track? I got an unsolicited sign this weekend in the form of a front cover photo and article which featured me in the VC Reporter, a cool weekly publication that serves Ventura County, California.
No sooner had I affirmed and committed to stepping into Recovery Consciousness more fully, and had taken some specific actions around it (which I think is really the key), did the Universe mirror back me that this is indeed the right track alright.
Quite a few months back, Alicia Doyle, a talented writer I worked with in the past, posted a request for input from people in recovery for an article on Sober Living she was working on. Since this is one of my favorite topics, and I trust her, I responded.
Time went by. The article was in the works she said, got pushed back, rescheduled. After a while, truthfully, I forgot about it or figured it landed on the “cutting room floor.”
Recently, Alicia called. The editor was running it as a good new year story. She requested a photo, preferably one that exemplified healthy, happy, living – free from addiction and alcoholism’s grip. I sent a couple for her to choose from.
Over the weekend I started getting calls and texts. Not only was the paper out and the article published, but it featured a full cover picture of a happy, healthy looking, free from the grips of addiction me. On the actual cover with large capital letters: SOBER LIVING. (“gonna buy 5 copies for my mother”… actually I really will frame it and remain in reverence of all that is possible with SOBER LIVING.)
By the way, if you would like thread the article, you can find it here.
Extraordinary bonus for me: the photo was taken by my son Adam on our special trip to Yosemite last October (outlined in “Promises and Miracles Come True” blog post.) We were at Hetch Hetchy Dam, a place in the magnificent splendor of Yosemite we had never been before. I was full of awareness, presence, and gratitude in that moment for that experience, unaware that it would be memorialized for the world to see under the words SOBER LIVING.
This to me is the universe saying “I got your back. Keep taking steps. Follow your higher power wisdom and guidance. Take action – do something – anything – in that direction.”
A Henry David Thoreau stated, “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary…”
In gratitude, harmony, and support,
