Eight Ways to Stay Sane and Sober During Summer
Recent posts by some of our wonderful guest bloggers shared several ways they stayed sober while navigating through real life events, while having fun during non-routine experiences. And isn’t that why we are getting and staying sober? To experience a fun, healthy, joyous life not only in – but also outside of –“the rooms.”

Here is a recap of some covered, and new ones too:
1. When going to the beach, bring a pitcher of fun and festive non-alcoholic beverages – juices, iced teas, or fruit infused (sparkling?) water, and focus on being fully present with friend or family, if possible. If not possible, just be or fully present with Mama Nature.
2. At a concert or party, just get up and dance – awkwardly or exuberantly – let the music take you and have fun.
3. When out of town (even in Las Vegas) – go to a meeting. Check out how it’s done in another city.
4. Bring along a book or a podcast about recovery or spirituality to help put some positive ideas in mind in case negative or fearful ones try to sneak in.
5. Formulate an exit strategy if you’re going to a party or picnic – make sure you don’t feel you have to stay longer than you want to if you have to give someone else a ride – or for any reason.
6. Stay close to sober friends – plan a special outing or gathering at someone’s home or in a public park.
7. Do something special that brings you joy – something you’ve always wanted to do but never quite got around to yet.
8. Use some of the longer daylight to go outside and take an evening walk or hike.
