Sobriety and Self-improvement

Sobriety and Self-improvement

As you may know, the “idea” of New Thought Sobriety was inspired by the beautiful blending of two teachings: Metaphysical spirituality and twelve-step recovery. If you are an adherent of both, you know what a gift this fusion is. We spoke to someone recently who couldn’t quite see the compatibility between the two. His rationale went something like this: 1. Many people come to New Thought on the road to self-improvement. 2. Many people come to AA out of desperation or by court order. 3. These are two completely different mindsets. Would it have sounded judgmental to say his claim was a gross generalization? It probably would have, so we didn’t come right out and say it. Instead, we went looking for other people’s opinions on the matter because, well, we do love us some research!

Prayer Treatment: New Opportunities

As I peer into the warm and vibrantly beautiful month of June… I sense new ideas, new opportunities, and new situations already planted in me coming into a thriving existence. I trust the process as I give life to that which comes to be by means of me… I am grateful to know that as the days grow longer, there is always enough time for everything that seeks expression by means of me… I open my arms wide to welcome the divinely timed arrival of June, which is already filled with love, light, and limitless possibility. I am strong, I am open, and I receive all the gifts life has to offer including health, joy, abundance, and love.

Are the Twelve Steps Dead?

Are the Twelve Steps Dead?

Thanks to AA, I found my way to sobriety. Thanks to AA, I also found my way to New Thought spirituality. For nearly three decades, these two life-giving teachings have educated and sustained me. Every day. One day at a time. And it all comes down to the steps, first and foremost. I begin my day with steps 1, 2, and 3. This simple practice is the foundation of my happy, healthy life. Whether thing are going well or I’m having the worst day in history, the steps get me going and carry me through.
