I have read this provocative article by Stanton Peele a few times, each time finding parts with which I agree, and many with which I could not disagree more. Maybe I don’t understand what he means by “natural recovery from addiction.” Are his 12 Concepts of Recovery a play against the 12 Steps of Recovery that work for me and for many? Certainly each of his 12 Concepts is encompassed in my personal recovery program – which also includes 12 Step work, and a consistent and deepening relationship with my higher power…. what could be more natural than that?
We are so pleased to have Carol Davis, author of Changeless Change, as our guest author this week. The topic of surrender is ever timely, for it is a daily choice––not a one-time decision. Enjoy, and be sure to read all about Carol and her wonderful book below the post.
Humbled by the honesty and clarity of gifted and highly respected teacher Rev. Dr. Maureen Hoyt, I invite you to read her article that explores her lifelong journey of self discovery along with her respect for the underlying problem that precedes addictions. Thank you for your beautiful share, Dr. Maureen, and for reminding us of that which cannot be found in any teaching or any program, but only from deep within, and that is the power and gift of choice.
Even though I am not an agnostic, I relate to so many of the questions it hits on. I’ve had those same thoughts before, and often felt out of tune with the masses. I am grateful I find a connection to the spiritual approach to life and to AA.

Please enjoy a beautiful writing from the beloved Rev Dr. Jane Claypool. Although she made her transition last fall, she left a legacy of wisdom and warmth. Her touching experience of embracing the Serenity Prayer is a beautiful and uplifting reminder that the power to choose how we are going to respond to life’s ups and downs lies within each of us.
