“Never limit your view of life by any past experience…It is simply a question of sticking to an idea until it becomes a tangible reality.”

The ABCs of “I Am” – Affirmations from A to Zzzzz – A Game to Play Along With

This is a revisit to a previous post in case you missed it. It’s fun and something to do when standing in line at the market, while stuck in traffic, or when you are still awake when you would prefer to be asleep.

I try to remember to be mindful of what I put after the extremely powerful word duo of “I AM.” That becomes my life experience. I Am… what I decide I am. Actually the way it works is that: I Am what I believe I am, no more, no less. If I want to know what I truly believe about myself, the clues lie in my results, situations, and circumstances. That’s the good news and the wake-up-call news. Those clues tell me what I currently believe to be possible or not for me.

The key is realizing “I AM” packs power when I toss them around carelessly, not only when I’m consciously directing it. Maybe even more powerful then, because my subconscious catches them and runs with it, undisturbed. Like when I say things like: “I am a klutz.” “I am not good at this.” “I am never going to get this.”

People have been known to get weird about saying “I am an alcoholic.” I don’t. I am an alcoholic. Nothing wrong with it… only something wrong if I am an alcoholic who is drinking alcohol. Truth is that I am a sober woman having an amazing time in recovery.

The other night I could not fall asleep. I began to play the alphabet game in my head. It started innocently enough when I noticed I am awake. It went on from there. It did help me get to sleep and I went on a high note.

Play along – it’s fun. And oh yeah, when you affirm, affirm big.

I am awake, aware, alive…
I am beautiful, bright, bold…
I am creative, curious, clever…
I am deliberate, (a) dreamer…
I am effervescent…
I am funny, fabulous…
I am grateful, generous…
I am healthy, honest, hilarious…
I am intelligent…
I am joyful…
I am kind…
I am loving…
I am magnificent…
I am nice, normal…
I am outstanding…
I am positive, persistant…
I am quick, questioning, quality…
I am resilient…
I am sober, spiritual, serene, successful…
I am trustworthy, talented…
I am understanding, unique…
I am valuable…
I am worthy, wonderful, willing…
I am (e)xcellent…
I am youthful…
I am zzzzzz… (Sleep came in handy that night as I couldn’t think of a z thing to be.)

Tell me what you are right now.

Or it could be what you are growing into.

Are you willing to sneak up on your thoughts to make sure you’re affirming what you want?

In gratitude, harmony, and support,

I love this Lena. I often focus too much on my character defects. I’m going to do this with my daughter the next time she wants to sleep with me. What a great tool to share with our kids.

Hi Carri – it is interesting how easy it is to rattle off our “character defects” and how easy it is to get stumped on our positive attributes. I could sail through the alphabet with YOUR positive attributes though, so if you get stuck, let me know! I am glad you and Shannon can have fun with this too!
